First Grade Blue 2026
“We are off to a great start in First Grade,” exclaimed teacher Mrs. Kim Hoffmann! First Graders have been completing lessons and activities centered around the story in our reading series, “The Blackout.” The story is about a boy whose family checks on their neighbors to make sure they are doing ok after the power goes out during a bad storm.
In Religion class, First Grade Blue talked about how Jesus comforts them during their time of need and when they are scared. “We also discussed how Jesus teaches us to love our neighbor as ourselves,” shared Mrs. Hoffmann.
In Science, the students worked in groups to conduct a rain cloud experiment! They used a pipette to drop blue dye into a shaving cream “cloud,” which was floating on top of a beaker filled with water. When the “rain cloud” filled up, the blue dye came “raining” down. During this experiment the students observed gravity pulling the water droplets (represented by the blue dye) down from the clouds (shaving cream) just like when it rains or storms. The students then discussed the water cycle and the terms evaporation, condensation, and precipitation. First Grade Blue really enjoyed this fun, culminating activity that connected Literature and Science!
