Throughout the Advent season, each class at OMPH School will participate in traditions that will bring them closer to Jesus as we follow His family to the manger.
Miss Armstrong’s Preschool 3 class will each create an Advent wreath and will glue a flame on every week and talk about what each candle means.
Mrs. Edmiston’s Pre-Kindergarten class will create an Advent wreath. They will tuck the flame in and pop it up every week to "light" it. Daily, they will also do a Jesse Tree reading and add an ornament to the tree.
The Pre-Kindergarten class will have a box of "gifts" that go along with a scripture reading and we open one each day and add them to our art center. The gifts are small toys and items that can create a manger. They talk about Jesus's birthday all month and how our hearts can be prepared to make good homes for Jesus.
Mrs. Gerhard’s Kindergarten class will be making a special Good Deeds ornament and writing a Good Deed they will do during the whole season of Advent that will be displayed on the classroom Christmas tree. They sing a special Advent song each morning, and students have an opportunity to put a wooden puzzle piece that represents the coming of Jesus on a manger scene. Other activities include a classroom Advent wreath and reading Advent stories from around the world.
Mrs. Hoffmann’s First Grade class will do Star from Afar, where each day in Advent the students find the Star and place it next to the 3 Wiseman beside the Manger. We also do activities related to “Jesus is the Reason for the Season.”
Mrs. Eberly’s Second Grade class will focus on “Steps to the Stable” and will be doing good deeds each day to prepare for Christmas. They will also be making advent wreaths with their eighth grade prayer pals.
Mrs. Touloumis’ Third Grade class will be making advent wreaths and their our own Jesse tree. The students will hear a story from the bible that talks about God's people before Jesus was born. They will then color an ornament that symbolizes each story and will add it to their Jesse Tree.
Mrs. Dodson’s Fourth Grade class will be following the advent calendar found in the back of their Religion books and a family advent wreath will be sent home so families can follow along with the classroom activities. It will have stickers and lines of scripture to remind us of the history in the Bible to get to the Savior.
Miss Boyd’s Fifth Grade will be completing a Kindness Calendar during the season of Advent. As a class, they will find little ways to bless others at home, school, and within the community.
The Sixth Grade class, under Mrs. DiNovis’ direction, will discusses the 4 weeks of Advent by watching videos highlighting the main aspects of each one; Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love.
Mr. Landry’s Seventh Grade class will decorate Advent Wreaths to hang in the classroom and have a discussion of the symbolism of the various aspects.
The OMPH Eighth Grade class, along with teacher Miss Peters, will have a weekly Advent prayer service in class with participation from all students. Thank you to our dedicated teachers for making Advent a meaningful season for our students!
