Kindergarten Gold 2026

Miss Peters’ Kindergarten Gold class has been busy “falling” into a new school year! It is only October and the class has been getting into the groove of routine and expectations. The students enjoy playing together in centers, anything with movement, and hands-on learning. This included Johnny Appleseed Day and the start of Cathechesis of the Good Shepherd.
The students dressed in the colors of various types of apples: Granny Smith, Honey Crisp, Gala, and Golden Delicious. They enjoyed smelling and tasting the apples while listening to the story of Johnny Appleseed. They counted the seeds and cut an apple horizontally to see the star shape inside! Then came the fun part: making the applesauce! All students played a part in adding the ingredients and stirring.
“The entire room and hallway came alive with the aroma of homemade applesauce, and the finished product was enjoyed by the students and fellow faculty and staff,” shared Miss Peters. The students were also given the chance to wear colored shirts to match our apple colors of red, yellow, and green while eating delicious apple treats and drinking apple juice.
Another fun activity for the students was decorating their October bulletin board with spooky spiders and numbering their 8 long legs!
Kindergarten Gold also began the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, a wonderful weekly program that works in conjunction with OMPH parish. Meetings take place in the Bernardine Center and are led by wonderful and dedicated volunteers who provide an experience of prayer and scripture. Students learn and sing songs of worship while also taking part in activities that are Montessori based. They have a plethora of centers to choose from, including setting up a miniature altar to assembling flower arrangements and practicing fine motor skills such as cutting and beading.
The trained volunteers stress working in a quiet environment and build student independence with cleaning areas when finished and working on their own. “They recently had their first session and did a great job,” exclaimed Miss Peters!
