2nd Grade Blue & Gold
At OMPH School, all students follow the mission of Christ – to learn our faith, live our faith, and prepare for the future. Second grade is unique, for each of our 2nd grade students embarks on an amazing journey with Jesus. The children prepare to meet Jesus in the sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist. This is a wonderful time of growth in knowledge and participation in their faith. Students learn about the history of these sacraments and their importance in our day-to-day lives.
In preparation for the sacrament of Reconciliation, the children learn that Jesus’ command to love continues throughout their lifetime! This will be a series of successes and failures. “One of the great joys of life is that when we fail to love, we can always trust in God’s mercy and forgiveness,” shared Second Grade Gold teacher Mrs. Schulze.
As they begin their studies for the sacrament of Holy Eucharist, the students gain a deeper understanding of exactly what takes place during Mass, and what each part means. Every year it is a privilege to prepare the second graders for First Holy Communion. “Our faith is strengthened to see such innocent wonder and awe in their love for Jesus,” exclaimed Mrs. Eberly, Second Grade Blue teacher.
The Second grade students have a special spiritual bond with their eighth grade prayer pals. They pray for and encourage each other, as both classes prepare at the same time to receive special sacraments. Each month they meet with their prayer pals and the older students assist the younger students in seasonal and spiritual activities.
In addition to religious growth, Second Grade builds on the educational foundations set in place in First Grade. Second grade is a year of tremendous growth both spiritually and academically!
