Kindergarten Gold has been hard at work since the first day of school! “Once we settled in and organized our materials, we turned our focus to Math and Writing skills. This has been both a fun and educational learning experience so far,” shared Miss Peters, Kindergarten Gold teacher.
The students have been using the numbers zero to five when making and comparing number groups. “Using number rhymes while getting as loud as they can helps the content stick a bit more,” explained Miss Peters. Hands-on learning is a great resource that fully engages the students; the class uses erasers, tokens, counting bears, etc. These items make learning more enjoyable while the children grasp a concept at the same time!
Kindergarten Gold is also beginning to strengthen their writing skills through their Fundations Program. Miss Peters connects this to OMPH School’s new Reading Program, Savvas, when she introduces her weekly lessons. The class utilizes sound-tub items, hand motions, and the use of vocabulary that includes “skyline, planeline, grassline, and wormline” to enhance writing skills. The students frequently use their mini whiteboards to practice sounds, letters, numbers, shapes, and high frequency words. “We are also using weekly Decodable books to maximize those high frequency words within sentences. Students enjoy using our Big Books to read and look at print concepts,” revealed Miss Peters.
Kindergarten Gold has been following in Jesus’ footsteps helping to welcome new students and visitors to their classroom. They talk about why names in the Bible are holy and reverent. Students are working hard at making the Sign of the Cross and strengthening their ability to both problem solve and work together to become amazing “Bucket Fillers!”
