Tackling Technology with Mrs. Lentz

Our students in grades Kindergarten through Middle School enjoy technology class once a week with Mrs. Lentz, our technology teacher. Technology at OMPH School is used as an additional learning tool, not a primary one. For example, our Kindergarten and First Grade students are diving into the Reading Eggs program, where they sharpen their reading, spelling, and math skills to become stellar learners through interactive games.

Our Second and Third Graders are becoming coding experts with Kodables, navigating mazes and games to enhance their spatial skills and develop math strategies. They are also designing their own puzzles and mazes for classmates to solve. Third Graders are further challenged to improve their keyboarding and spelling skills with Z-type before working on storyboards and games through Tynker challenges.

As students progress to the upper grades, Mrs. Lentz uses Nitrotype to boost word processing skills and Tynker to expand coding knowledge. Students love challenging their classmates to typing races and work together to solve the coding challenges. “We also engage in discussions and watch short videos about internet safety and bullying, emphasizing the importance of talking to parents or trusted adults if something feels troubling,” shared Mrs. Lentz.

Fourth and Fifth Graders are enhancing their computer technology skills by using Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets to create reports and brochures. Middle School students continue to refine these skills through research projects, producing professional final presentations through document and essay editing. These students also make time for fun coding practice with Tynker. “Overall, we are building skills and having fun in Technology Class,” exclaimed Mrs. Lentz!
