Pre-K: Laying a Strong Foundation for our Youngest Students

Welcome back to our Preschool 3 and Preschool 4 students! The Preschool faculty were excited to begin their programs, designed to provide a nurturing and engaging environment for your little ones! These programs are crafted to lay a strong foundation in faith along with early learning and development, setting the stage for future success.

The OMPH School Preschool year started on August 26. This is the fourth year OMPH School has had a full time program. Their day starts at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 2:45 p.m. There is one Preschool classroom for 3 year olds with Mrs. Pagan as the teacher and Mrs. Rann as the classroom aide. We also have one Preschool classroom for 4 year olds, with Mrs. Edmiston as the teacher and Mrs. Flower as the classroom assistant.

A typical day consists of morning meeting, free play, small group time, music and movement, large group, lunch in the cafeteria, read aloud, gross motor on the outside playground, nap time, snack time, and an afternoon meeting. These students also are attending three special classes this year! Mrs. Pence, Mrs. Wissler and Mrs. Lewis take the students to the atrium for the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Program once a week. Mrs. Dreihaup provides a library class once a week and Mrs. Sands teaches the students a music lesson once a week.

Preschool 3 and Preschool 4 also have visitors come into the school to talk to the students about their jobs each month. In the past, they have had a nurse, a member of our military, a police officer, firefighters, and a farmer visit. “We can’t wait to have more visitors this year,” Mrs. Edmiston and Mrs. Pagan exclaimed. Some of the activities that our youngest students have done so far include making self-portraits, writing their names, counting objects, learning about God, learning how to play with many other children in one room, and learning about each of their classmates.

“We enjoy many hands-on activities including cooking, making play doh, finger painting, and creating slime to name a few,” explained the teachers. Some of Preschool’s upcoming themes for this school year include Apples, Pumpkins, Thanksgiving, The Nativity, Winter, Friendship, Fairy Tales, and many more!
